In our employee of the month blog series we highlight a different Info-Pro employee every month so you can get to know us better! Up this month? Mitch Vana.
Mitch Vana, Software Engineer
What do you do in your role at Info-Pro?
As a member of the engineering team my work revolves around supporting Info-Exchange. I spend most of my time developing new features for the platform as well as investigating and resolving any issues that might come up. At times I also help with maintaining the multitude of dependencies in which Info-Exchange relies on.
How long have you worked at Info-Pro?
I started working for Info-Pro in December of 2018 which puts me at just under a year and a half.
What other jobs have you had prior to working at Info-Pro?
During college I interned as a web developer at a genetic testing company. My primary project was a consumer-facing website which helped market a service directly to consumers. I also assisted with improving the company’s main website.
After graduating college, I worked as a software developer at an insurance company. My team played a vital role in the calculation of insurance premiums for our customers.
What’s your favorite thing about your job or working at Info-Pro generally?
If I had to pick the one thing that I like most about Info-Pro, it would be the people. Everyone is friendly and always willing to lend a hand.
Tell us about your family.
My girlfriend, Ariel, currently works as an office administrator while pursuing a degree in environmental science. She’s a big fan of all things Star Wars.
What do you like to do in your free time?
During the warmer months my family spends time at my grandparents’ cottage on the Fox River in Princeton, Wisconsin. We enjoy relaxing, taking the occasional boat ride on the river, and seeing what’s for sale at the flea market.
While I’m certainly no professional I definitely enjoy bowling with friends. I throw my fair share of gutter balls but also manage to get a few turkeys here and there.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Hartford, Wisconsin with my parents and sister.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Wisconsin?
As much as I dislike driving in snow, I’m glad that we have four seasons in Wisconsin. Some days it’s nice to wake up to a snow-covered landscape and take in the scenery.
Share an interesting or fun fact about yourself.
When I was younger my grandfather and I were looking for snakes in the river at my grandparents’ cottage. My grandfather eventually found one and flung it out of the water with a fishing net. Next thing I knew there was a snake flying at me and I ended up catching it with my neck. I wouldn’t be surprised if that snake achieved some sort of speed record with how quickly I flung it off of me.
